Basic Alternatives to Sheltered Employment (B.A.S.E.)

The B.A.S.E. Program was developed and designed to provide a greater degree of community integration and to provide the necessary supports required to place and maintain individuals in community-based employment situations.

The objectives of the B.A.S.E. Program are: to assist individuals in becoming an integral part of the community in which they are living; to work with the individual and community to locate work experience or competitive employment positions; to enhance the individual’s work and social skills; and to provide the level of training and support required for success in the workplace.

The B.A.S.E. process begins with an individual making a referral to the program. The B.A.S.E. support staff then interview the individual to identify their career goals, expectations, and training. Support staff search out a placement for the person and meet the potential employer to clarify job requirements, wages etc. The B.A.S.E staff provides the initial training as well as ongoing support and evaluation to both the individual and employer.
