Exciting Opportunity for Transitional-Aged Youth: Experience College Life with the New Community on Campus Program!
Are you between the ages of 18 and 29 and curious about college life—but not quite ready to commit to a full-time diploma program? The new Community on Campus initiative, offered in partnership with Durham College, is your chance to explore post-secondary life in a flexible, supported way.
Whether you're interested in building new skills, making connections, or simply getting a feel for the campus experience, this program is designed just for you!
What to Expect:
As a participant, you’ll be matched with a current Durham College student who will be your campus guide and mentor. Together, you’ll design a customized schedule that fits your interests and availability—typically meeting 1–2 days per week from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Your personalized college experience could include:
- Socializing with Students: Meet new people, join in casual conversations and campus life activities.
- Lunch in the Cafeteria: Share meals in the dining hall and feel part of the college community.
- Literacy Skill Building: Access the library or computer lab to strengthen reading, writing, or digital literacy.
- Attending College Sports Events: Cheer on Durham College teams and enjoy the school spirit.
- Using the Gym and Track: Stay active with access to the college’s fitness facilities.
- Exploring the eSports Lounge: Relax and play in a fun, tech-savvy environment.
- Auditing a Class: Sit in on a lecture to see what real college learning feels like—no homework required!
Support and Flexibility:
With help from your student match and on-site support from CLAPW staff, you’ll have all the guidance you need. Choose the activities and schedule that work best for you.
Please note: Transportation to and from the Durham College Oshawa campus is the responsibility of the participant or their family.
